I stayed here for one night as I was working in the area. I telephoned the pub, and they had room availability at a fair price for B&B, so I booked. I arrived around 5.30 pm and the pub was busy. I was seen to quite fast and I ordered an evening meal which was tasty. The room had everything I needed, and I slept well. All the staff were friendly and efficient. I will use this pub again should I be working in the area.

Great spot in Epworth, right in the center! The accommodations are basic but very nice. Comfy beds and hot showers. Love this place. The staff at the Red Lion in October 2024 were very friendly and made me feel welcome.

We dropped in unplanned recently for a Sunday lunch as other family members were going there. Have to say we had a lovely Sunday Beef roast. All three of us loved it. Well presented, plenty of beef cooked to perfection, along with the vegetables with a lovely hidden roast parsnip hidden away as a nice surprise beneath the layers of beef. Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere inside. Shame its not close by to us otherwise we'd pop in more! Would recommend the food and drink. Can't comment on the rooms as we weren't planning to stay over.

Stayed just the one night after a wake across the road. So the location was perfect for our stay. I loved it. It’s a proper old place, down to earth, a little dated and jaded round the edges, but just my sort of place. The staff were lovely. Leslie and Annabel, who cooked and served our breakfast, were particularly friendly. Nothing was too much trouble for them, they went above and beyond to accommodate a couple of children in our party who were fussy eaters. Our standard double room was basic and a little dated but comfortable. It was clean but required a little maintenance here and there. There are lots of rooms arranged around a central courtyard. Despite being over the bar it was very quiet. We had a comfortable stay and would book here again if we are ever in Epworth in the future.

3 of us went for a meal on Wednesday. The pub was popular and all of the meals that came out looked delicious. It was steak and curry night but full menu was also available. We all opted for curries and a pudding each which were delicious. Staff all were very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend and will be returning.

Room decor was quite dated and the room wasn't very clean. Several peoples hair down the bath plug just for an example . Large room but next door to a really noisy, upstairs gym that opened at 0600, so I had a wake up of dance music, some ladies life story being shouted to her mate and weights being constantly dropped on the floor. Fire door closures in the hallway really slammed the doors shut and needed attention! Pair the early wake up with the fact the rooms are over the rear pub patio and smoking area, which is lively until midnight and it's not the quietest, longest nights sleep. Bed was comfy and I was pleased to see ample coffee supplies, although the spoons were both sticky with coffee on the back. The pub was great, food was great. We happened to be there on quiz night, so it was lively and a lovely atmosphere. Breakfast was good and made to order, not the chain-style, killed by hot lamp breakfast and there was all the normal other breakfast stuff. I think the room cleaning could be improved and was the biggest turn off for me. You can move from noise but if none of the rooms are clean... Over all I would stay again but I would request a room at the other end of the building.

Second stay here. Lovely place. Very good quality room at a very good price. Staff obviously busy, it being Christmas period, but helpful. Room large and warm. Clean and tidy. Great looking location, outside courtyard is soooo Dickensian! Very photogenic. If you're looking for something different and quaint this is the place. Was easy to get to Yorkshire Wildlife park from there, also not far to York city, Sheffield centre etc. Well worth it.

Lovely modern pub with enclosed beer garden. I hadn’t been inside before and was pleasantly surprised, nice decor, clean tables (really important to me as it tells you everything), and friendly staff. I didn’t stay or eat there so can’t comment further which is why I held off the 5 star, but the food looked ok and I wouldn’t have hesitated had we not booked elsewhere.
